In 1999, CAT entered into a collaboration with Pharmacia, now part of Pfizer (http://www.pfizer.com), for the development of human monoclonal antibody therapeutics across a number of disease areas but with a primary focus in cancer. CAT's expertise in Phage Display antibody technology and the development of human monoclonal antibody therapeutics was integrated with Pharmacia's capabilities in genomics, discovery biology and drug development. Pharmacia paid upfront technology access fees and research funding to CAT and made an equity investment in CAT. CAT receives milestone payments based on the successful development of human monoclonal antibody drug candidates and will receive royalties on any sales of products developed by Pfizer.
In April 2003, Pharmacia was acquired by Pfizer and the collaboration between CAT and Pharmacia continued under this new ownership.
