GC-1008 is a human anti-TGFβ monoclonal antibody being developed initially to treat idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
TGFβ or Transforming Growth Factor Beta is one of a family of multifunctional biological molecules, excess production of which is associated a variety of symptoms including fibrosis and scarring. CAT and Genzyme believe that the neutralisation of TGFβ offers important and valuable opportunities for addressing unmet medical needs in a number of disease conditions.
The US FDA has given approval for a Phase I clinical trial in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, which is underway. An IND has been granted for GC-1008 in oncology and a Phase I, dose escalation trial is underway in patients with renal cell carcinoma or malignant melanoma. GC-1008 is also currently in pre-clinical studies in support of these and further potential indications.
GC-1008 is co-funded by CAT and Genzyme.
