iCo-008 is a human monoclonal antibody that acts to specifically neutralise the protein eotaxin1. iCo-008 was discovered and developed by Cambridge Antibody Technology and is licensed to iCo Therapeutics for further development and commercialisation.
iCo-008 targets eotaxin1, a member of the chemokine family of proteins that acts as messenger molecules between the cells of the immune system. During an allergic response the levels of eotaxin1 are elevated. This attracts eosinophils, a type of white blood cell, into tissues where they can degranulate causing tissue damage that occurs in a variety of allergic disorders.
Phase I/II studies of iCo-008 in patients with severe allergic disorders have been completed and iCo-008 was found to be safe and well-tolerated. iCo Therapeutics plans to develop iCo-008 initially for the treatment of ocular allergies including Vernal Keratoconjunctivitis (VKC), a severe ocular allergy that may pose a threat to vision.
